We have been doing lots of sorting in preparation for our moving sale on August 11th. Lots of items have been given away or sold to family members already but there is still lots more to get rid of.
Colin and I visited Canmore last month, looking at real estate. But it is hard to buy a new home in just one long weekend, even though I had been looking at properties our personal website with the Brad Hawker Real Estate Team for a year and a half. I ventured back out last weekend and looked at a few properties that were for sale, but switched the focus to finding a place to rent for a year. That was the advice of our financial manager, and our gut sense for what to do right now. That will give us the time to get to know our new community, find out what part of town we want to live in, and take our time on a most important purchase. It feels right. And I found us a great house to rent! It is at the end of a quiet street, but just a very short walk to the heart of downtown Canmore. It is mere paces away from the fabulous Canmore trail system. It is a home that has been built lovingly by the current owners. They are building anew on Vancouver Island but aren't quite ready to part with their Canmore home yet. I met them on two occasions last weekend and they were great folks to deal with. It is a four bedroom home with a huge deck, great south facing living room/dining room with hardwood floors, great kitchen with beautiful cabinetry, a great office room, lots of room for storing our mountain toys, a garage, and a driveway that will fit the car and the tent trailer. It is on a lovely treed lot (great hammock potential) with natural landscaping, room for the canoe (they have one in the back yard now), and a little bit of a veg garden.
Once we leave Ajax on Aug 17th, we will be heading EAST for two weeks with stops in:
- Ottawa to visit the Peterson's
- Tadoussac hopefully to see some whales
- Moncton to visit Colin's brother
- Charlottetown for 3 days where I will be attending and presenting at the Atlantic Summer Institiute
- Cape Breton
- Montreal to visit Colin's parents and friends
- Huntsville to visit my friend Joanne at her new home
- Hamilton to visit Colin's other brother
- Then we visit Allanah's parents in Waterdown (near Hamilton) where we will pick up Mark and Allanah who are back in Ontario for a wedding
- Then there will be a get together with my Mum and sister, and Mark and Allanah betore we start our four/five day journey to Alberta
But over the next three weeks, there is so much do to. Exciting times!
